We finished the installation yesterday, inclosed you can find some pictures,
it was very dark in the cinema (black walls so it was difficult to make good
pictures) there is also a picture of a woodblock i found at the site that
symbolized for me what the sound piece was about. I would like to send you
the two sound pieces i created for the installation, but i think it's best
done by post, cuz downloading them would take to long.

Krikri is a group of people looking for a contemporary way to bring the poetic to the fore, a combination of sounds, writing, shouts and whispers; creeping through territory that may or may not be forbidden; a name derived from the poet Antonin Artaud's 'gris gris' ('gris gris' is the word for a kind of protective talisman), a playful existence. Krikri emphasises the poetic and in particular the 'sound' of the poetic, since poetry in the usual sense began as an oral phenomenon independent of books and paper. Krikri’s activities include: performances, workshops, an annual festival.

Maja Jantar

Jantar is a licentiate in Art Studies. In her dissertation, "Le poison de l'être, in search of Antonin Artaud’s Rodez drawings", she investigated the difficulties surrounding the link between body and mind, and the expression of this in the drawings and literature of Antonin Artaud. Fascination with the apparent duality between body and mind has inspired her to explore this theme further in doctorate research.

Jantar has always been fascinated by language, image and mise-en-scène. Since 1995 she has given performances linking these three elements. These productions were based on texts she has written and produced for the stage. Thus Da Capo, Maskers van Zwijgen,  Huis van de ongeboren dichter en Medusaleum  came into being.

Her work on these performances has also led to her projects as a director. In 1999/2000 Jantar provided the direction, scenery and costumes for De Schilder and Waterman by Meander. The production of these two monologues took place in De Schakel in Waregem and the Vooruit in Ghent.

For the Klankfabriek festival (summer 2002) she provided the direction and scenery of Infinito Nero, an opera by Salvatore Sciarrino.

Jantar has given a number of performances in 2002 and 2003 for the Krikri project (www.krikri.be) , in Antwerp, Arnhem, Vienna, etc.). She is also involved in visual art. In the summer of 2001 she studied with Herman Nitsch at the Salzburg summer school, where she deepened her knowledge of the materiality of painting itself and of the possibilities that “action painting” can offer. She followed workshops with Lydia Lunch and with David Moss (Institute for Living Voice), where she explored new vocal techniques to enrich spoken text.

Together with engineer Johannes Taelman and dancer Nicoletta Branchini, she is currently working on Tsutsu Izutsu (based on Nô theatre, première on 30th-31st May 2003, Ghent).
